If we were a young actress and had landed the starring role opposite heartthrob Zac Efron in his new movie “Charlie St. Cloud,” we imagine we’d shout the news to all our friends and family and brag to anyone within hearing range. And then we’d likely regret it, because everyone and our mom would beg us to come to set and meet Zac.

Not the case with “St. Cloud” co-star Amanda Crew (who we hope you recognize from her scene-stealing role in “She’s the Man” with the Amanda Bynes). When asked if she had any friends or family members begging to for a Zac introduction, Amanda said her people were all cool as cucumbers.

“Obviously my friends and family were extremely happy for me,” Amanda said of their reaction on hearing her casting news. “But they have always been really respectful of my job and my work place and so I didn’t have any friends trying to suddenly take interest in my job and trying to come on set.”

The 24-year-old added that a few of her friends did get to meet Zac, but not because of any special fangirl request, just because he’s “a really cool guy.”

“He is very down to earth and approachable,” Amanda said of her co-star. “I had really good time working with him.”

She also revealed that Zac has an additional talent that he shared with her while making the film.

“He can rap,” Amanda said. “He can free-style like crazy, he can lay it down. He is actually really really good at rapping.”

There you have it, Crush-ers. You really do learn something new every day.

Zac Efron, Amanda Crew and Charlie Tahan reminisce about their time spent filming Charlie St. Cloud and how they bonded on set!

Zac Efron stars as Charlie, whose younger brother, Sam (Charlie Tahan), gets killed in a car crash just before Charlie is to leave for college on a sailing scholarship. When Charlie leaves Sam’s funeral, he finds Sam’s ghost and promises never to leave him.

However, Charlie meets Tess (Amanda Crew), a former classmate and sailing champ, and has to decide whether to stay with Sam or start living his life again.

Moviefone spoke with the three stars about how they bonded on set and became just as close in real life as they appear in the film.

To get to know each other off set, Zac and Charlie say they went to movies and hockey games and practiced sailing together.

The “Charlie St. Cloud” marketing campaign keeps teasing us in their trailers and TV spots about how the titular Charlie’s lady love, Tess (Amanda Crew), goes missing out in Quincy harbor, which seems to be leading up the climactic ending of the film.

This latest featurette (press play above!) shows some of the behind the scenes elements of Tess’s rescue by Charlie, and is explained by its lead hunk, Zac Efron. The video shows how Tess’ rescue was filmed and, to be fair, is really cool, but that’s something I’d personally want to watch as a DVD extra instead of to promote the film in the days up until its release.

Still, we’ll take any excuse to watch Zac Efron, especially when he’s shirtless and explaining how he prides himself on being able to hold his breath the longest. Does this mean Vanessa Hudgens is privy to some especially long make out sessions?

We can’t wait to see how the final cut of this scene plays out on Friday when “Charlie St. Cloud” hits theaters and hope that Tess’ rescue ends well. All the stuff about underwater shooting (and the scenes from the film that we are teased with) looks really great, and as Zac jokes, his acting looks pretty great, too.

One of the other pivotal roles in the romantic drama is that of Tess Carroll, a high-school friend and gifted sailor who inadvertently creates a reason for Charlie St. Cloud to escape his self-induced prison. Charlie develops deep feelings for the girl he knew so long ago, and Tess represents a chance for him to discover what it’s like to live again.
British Columbia native Amanda Crew was ecstatic to both win the role of Tess and film in her home province. Luckily for her, it was her birthday when she received the call to come in and read opposite Efron. “We met Amanda through the audition process,” says Steers. “She came in and won the part. She’s beautiful, approachable and everything we were looking for. Her personality wins you over immediately. She’s just scratching the surface of her talent.”
Crew offers insight into her character: “Tess has put a lot of pressure on herself by planning to sail around the world. It was her father’s dream for her; she’s been training tirelessly with her coach and has commitments to sponsors. It’s all or nothing. If she fails, she fails so many people. She’s in control of everything in her life and then she meets Charlie, which throws a complete wrench in her plans. She’s feeling things so strongly she can’t ignore them, yet it comes at the worst possible time…because she’s leaving in one week.”
